ABOUT OUR IN HOUSE SPECIALIST:
Alan owned and operated a small recording studio since 1997 doing the full spectrum - engineering, producing, mixing and guest musician. He has experience in all phases of making a record and has been writing songs since around 2002. Recorded about 5 albums worth of original material, and played most of the instruments on all those as well as handling the recording and mixing.
Bands: Mercury Dime 1996-1998 as guitarist. Two major releases on Yep Roc records. Divided by Four (local covers band) 1999 - Present. Guitarist and Keyboards.
Tech Background: Specializing in building, restoring, repair, racking and custom modification of vacuum tube recording and audio equipment. Alan has been collecting and repairing tube gear since the late 90s, and have been building gear since 2009. He has built at least 25 tube mics pres, some from scratch and some were done by converting existing gear and repurposing for studio use. He has also built replicas of some popular vintage commercial units such as Pultec EQP1A, RCA BA-2, Altec 436, and Gates SA-39B.

Racking services. Custom modifications including addition of input or output pads, connector conversions, custom switching, addition of output attenuators, addition of phantom power (when possible). Modification of attack, release, and threshold on vari-mu compressors. Changing/replacing input/output/interstage or power transformers and chokes. Lowering or increasing gain on certain amps when applicable.
We also offer custom racking of popular repeat coil transformers such as the WE 111C or UTC LS-30 for mixing, isolation or other uses.
If you have one of the Roberts/Akai, Sony, or Ampex 600 tube tape recorder modules and wish to have them converted to a studio mic pre, compressor, or guitar or speaker amp, we can easily do this for you. The cost varies according to what you want done and how much you want to spend on the needed transformers.
